Pastor Derrick R. Harris
His Story
On July 30, 1970 Pastor Derrick R. Harris was born
to Superintendent Irvin Harris and Missionary Ruth Harris. As a child he served in the church as a praise team leader at the
age of 8, a youth choir director at the age of 10 and the director of the adult choir at the age of 13. He preached his first
message at the age of 8 entitled; A true man of God, taken of Job chapter 1. At the age of 15, following after the steps of
his father, Pastor Harris entered Barber College while
still attending high school. After being offered scholarships from several colleges and universities in the area of voice,
Pastor Harris accepted a scholarship from Bethune-Cookman College. After his freshman year in college at the age of 18 he opened his own business
Derrick’s Cutmasters on them 2nd Avenue.
After 6 months of running a successful business he then opened a second location entitled Derrick’s Beauty Master also
located of 2nd Avenue. Soon after God opened
the doors of property ownership and at the age of 19 years old Pastor Harris purchased the property that houses the business
now for more 18 years.
On October 18, 1992 Pastor Harris accepted is call to ministry and
was licensed at Mount Carmel Missionary
Baptist Church under the pastor
ship of Pastor Derrick Triplett. Soon after Pastor Harris married the loving Missionary Darica L. Harris as his wife on March
20, 1993. After three years of serving as a praise team leader, drummer, and youth minister of Mount Carmel, Pastor Harris
retuned to his roots in the Church of God
in Christ. He was licensed as a minister in the Church of God
in Christ by Pastor Melvin Copeland at School Street Church of God in Christ. On July 20,
1995 Pastor Harris was ordained as an Elder by the Late Bishop Melton L. Sconiers. Pastor Harris then accepted his first pastorate
charge on September 17, 1995. Throughout the next 12 years of his pastorate he served as district youth president of the Emmanuel
and Palatka Districts, member of the associate board of trustees of Bethune-Cookman College, member
of the Daytona Beach police ministers association, Chaplain of the Daytona Beach
Black Clergy Alliance, member of the Daytona Beach Community Relations Board, and also began serving as senior pastor of the
Crown of Life Church of God in Christ in New Symrna Beach, FL, on January 20th on 2005. Most recently he has been
given a charge to begin the Greater Daytona Beach District for the Western Florida Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.
Pastor & Missionary Harris are very proud parents of four wonderful
and beautiful children. Di’Erra Sheree, Danielle Morgan, Destiny Victoria,
And Derrick R. Harris, II.
Pastor Harris believes that as long as God is placed first, the best
is yet to come.
